Hoffman lit up in loss to D-backsAugust 13, 2019 | 09:19 PM

Jeff Hoffman was obliterated for seven runs over two innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Hoffman was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque to make a spot start in place of Jon Gray, who was scratched from his scheduled outing due to ankle soreness. It didn't go well. He served up a leadoff homer to Jarrod Dyson and also coughed up two-run homers to Christian Walker and Nick Ahmed later in the opening frame. He also gave up a two-run dinger to David Peralta in the second inning. Ouch. The 26-year-old right-hander owns a disastrous 7.81 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 43/18 K/BB ratio in nine starts at the big-league level. He's running out of chances to prove he belongs in a major-league rotation.
