Javy Baez gets busy with two hits WednesdayJune 12, 2019 | 03:32 PM
Javier Baez made a trip to Souvenir City Wednesday, clubbing his 17th long ball of the season in a lopsided win over the Rockies.
Baez was everywhere Wednesday, collecting a leadoff single in the third, reaching again in the fifth on an error by Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers, then capping his afternoon with a majestic 460-foot cannon shot to left field in the eighth. That came after both dugouts were warned following an Anthony Rizzo hit-by-pitch. After finishing runner-up to Christian Yelich in last year's MVP voting, the superstar shortstop is having himself another monster year, batting a robust .297 with 17 jacks, 18 doubles and 46 RBI over 266 at-bats for the Cubs, who find themselves in a dead heat with Milwaukee for first in the NL Central.
