Ben Simmons will not play for Australia in next month's FIBA World Cup of Basketball. Simmons won't be on the final squad headed to China, but he will work out with the Boomers and play in the team's exhibition games ahead of the tournament. He does plan on playing in next summer's Olympic Games in Tokyo, however. In a statement he released Tuesday afternoon Simmons, whose five-year $170 million contract extension became official earlier in the day, said that he "will be honored and humbled to represent my country on the world's biggest sporting stage at the [2020 Summer] Olympics in Tokyo."
