Buccaneers' Doug Martin: Optimistic but looking to improve in coming seasonJuly 27, 2016 | 10:42 PM

Martin is looking forward to 2016 but seeks to reduce his career-high five fumbles from last season, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The Pro Bowl running back expressed considerable optimism regarding the coming season as training camp opened Wednesday, remarking that he's "very anxious to get going, to see what this team can do, see how we're going to improve." At the same time, Martin, armed with a new five-year, $35.7 million contract, knows the onus is on him to not only live up to his new deal, but improve on his surprising ball security problems from last season. After only losing three fumbles over his first three NFL campaigns, the 27-year-old coughed up the ball on five occasions in 2015, with three of those occurring in the final five weeks of the campaign. Martin confirms he's worked on specific technique this offseason designed to address the issue. "I watched all those fumbles after last season," Martin said. "It was more of me fighting for extra yards, not having my other arm on the ball, other hand on the ball. That will all be corrected. I don't look to be fumbling that much this year."
