Head coach Peter Laviolette played a big role in convincing Matt Duchene to sign in Nashville.
Laviolette and Duchene had a 10-minute talk scheduled and that ended up lasting 45 minutes before they were finally interrupted. Duchene remarked afterwards the he feels like he knows Laviolette already. "We talked about a lot of different things, from five-on-five play to positions to power play to our team to his strengths," Laviolette said. "He had a busy day. He flew in and he was going from here to there to here. ... We had 15 to 20 minutes to talk. Next thing you know it's 40 minutes and somebody is kind of busting in on us. It was a good conversation. He liked the idea of Nashville and our team." Duchene went on to sign a seven-year, $56 million contract with Nashville.
