Moritz Seider back in GermanyMarch 29, 2020 | 12:00 AM

Moritz Seider, the Red Wings first round pick and sixth overall in the 2019 Draft, has returned to his home in Germany. Analysis: Seider likely would have received a call up from the Red Wings had the season not paused as he was having a good season as an 18-year-old in the AHL with 22 points, second among Grand Rapids scoring defensemen. "When you draft a guy as high as we drafted Moritz, there are high expectations," Detroit's director of player personnel Shawn Horcoff said. "We are really happy with where he is at, with where he was at when the league shut down. He was playing 23-plus minutes a night, sometimes 25. His offensive game is really starting to come -- you're starting to see more puck-moving ability, more pucks through to the net. His shot has improved. He is playing much more on the power play and it looks like he's getting more and more comfortable there." Expect big things from Seider in the NHL next season although his offensive stats may not be fantasy-worthy for a couple of seasons.
