Perez is scheduled to make his first start for the Padres on Saturday versus the Rockies at Petco Park. Acquired Tuesday from the Pirates in exchange for left-hander Ronaldys Jimenez, Perez will bolster the back end of the San Diego rotation. He may not be in line for a long-term stay in the rotation, however, as Joe Musgrove (elbow) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment this weekend and could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list around mid-August to take over Perez's starting role. Perez had functioned as little more than an innings eater for Pittsburgh prior to the trade, turning in a 5.20 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 8.3 K-BB% over 16 starts.
