Rays' Daniel Robertson: Pivotal year upcomingMay 21, 2020 | 04:51 PM

Robertson is one of the members of the Rays roster with something to prove during a potential 2020 season, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports. The versatile utility asset continued to put in time all over the infield in 2019 -- Robertson saw time at second base, shortstop and third base -- and he's also toiled in the outfield at the big-league level. However, Robertson saw a major downturn at the plate last season, slashing an underwhelming .213/.312/.295 across 237 plate appearances while also suffering a mid-season knee injury that required surgery. The 26-year-old re-upped with the Rays for $1 million in what was his second year of arbitration, so salary won't be an issue in and of iteslf; however, if other options such as Mike Brosseau or Nate Lowe are able to impress during a 2020 season that appears destined to feature expanded rosters if it does unfold, Robertson could be surpassed if he isn't able to make notable improvement at the plate.
