Lakers could pursue Chris Paul should he opt outJuly 21, 2021 | 11:14 AM

According to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, The Lakers will be on the market for a veteran point guard this offseason, and both Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook could be options that they explore. Analysis: It is no secret that the Lakers will be looking to upgrade their roster this offseason. With the uncertainty that surrounds current point guard Dennis Schroder and his free agency decision, it is not surprising that they will be looking for potential replacements should he decide to leave. Chris Paul has a $44 million player option this summer and should he decline it, he will enter free agency, but still could elect to return to the Suns. Westbrook on the other hand is under contract until 2022-2023 but has a player option following the 2022 season. The Lakers likely would have to work out a sign and trade scenario that likely could include Schroder and other pieces, possibly Kyle Kuzma, who the Lakers have reportedly been shopping. Westbrook also is a Los Angeles native, which makes a possible return home a bit more intriguing.
