Steelers' Robert Spillane: Likely in line for starting roleJuly 21, 2021 | 08:56 PM

Spillane could be in line for a starting role in 2021 following Vince Williams' retirement Wednesday, Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Spillane and Williams were expected to compete for snaps during training camp, but the 25-year-old could now be the clear starter as he prepares for his fourth season in Pittsburgh. The Western Michigan graduate totaled 45 tackles (39 solo), including two sacks, along with an interception, a fumble recovery and a touchdown across 12 games last year before he missed the final four games of the regular season with a knee injury. Marcus Allen and Ulysses Gilbert could also see some playing time in a depth capacity if the team doesn't bring in another linebacker prior to Week 1.
