Red Wings expected to use Bernier and GreissNovember 23, 2020 | 05:20 AM

Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill expects to use both Jonathan Bernier and Thomas Greiss a lot this season with a condensed schedule. Analysis: Bernier played pretty well last season despite the Red Wings porous play in front of him while Greiss had a terrific season with the Islanders before coming over to Detroit in the off-season. "I thought from December on, Bernier had an excellent year," Blashill said". "I didn't think we played very good defense in front of him at that point. I thought earlier in the year we did. He's worked hard through this long break to make sure he's ready. With Thomas, I've seen him for a long time in the NHL and at the World Championship. He's a big man (6-2, 232), he knows how to fill the net, he works extremely hard and he's a pretty unflappable person. It gives us two really solid options. With the schedule we're going to face, with a condensed year as it appears, you need two guys that can go out and give you great goaltending, and our plan is to utilize both guys and hopefully have a great tandem."
