Austin Martin reverts back to old swing in AFLNovember 23, 2022 | 11:05 AM
Twins INF/OF prospect Austin Martin told The Athletic recently that his prolonged struggles last season were the result of organization-driven changes to his swing and offensive approach.
Analysis: Martin, who was the centerpiece of the Twins' blockbuster Jose Berrios trade with the Blue Jays back in 2021, tore the UCL in his non-throwing hand last July and finished with a disastrous .683 OPS in 90 games for Double-A Wichita. The 23-year-old top prospect showed some signs of life recently, batting .374/.454/.482 with six doubles, 11 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 97 plate appearances for the Glendale Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League, after reverting to his old swing and offensive approach. He's unlikely to hit for much over-the-fence power at the highest level, but he has a chance to hit for average and also chip in a few stolen bases, once he eventually reaches the majors.
