Baty working on defense with Troy TulowitzkiFebruary 02, 2023 | 06:52 AM

Mets prospect Brett Baty has been working on his defense this offseason with former All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. Analysis: The relationship dates back to a couple of years ago when Tulowitzki was a volunteer assistant for the baseball coaching staff at the University of Texas at Austin. In the offseason, Baty was allowed to used the facilities along with other professional players. The 22-year-old is on the verge of a prominent role in the majors, but some have questioned his capabilities at third base. "He's got all the tools," said Tulowitzki. "He just needs some reps." Baty's future briefly looked murky when the Mets reached an agreement with Carlos Correa, but issues with the physical led to him returning to the Twins. Eduardo Escobar figures to open the year as the starting third baseman for New York, but odds are Baty ends up seeing significant time in the majors this summer. He's a name to watch in all fantasy leagues.
