Red Sox designated RHP Matt Barnes for assignment. Analysis: The Red Sox needed to free up a spot on the 40-man roster after acquiring Adalberto Mondesi on Tuesday, but it's still a bit surprising to see Barnes get the boot. The right-hander posted an underwhelming 4.31 ERA,1.44 WHIP and a 34/21 K/BB ratio over 39 2/3 innings during the 2022 season. His contract will probably preclude other teams from snatching him on waivers, but after he clears he should have no problem finding another club willing to take a shot on him.
