Payne was waived by the Spurs on Monday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports. Payne was penciled in as the backup point guard in San Antonio behind Tre Jones before this news, but the franchise is going in a new direction and have several young candidates to fill the role including Malaki Branham and Blake Wesley.
