Wizards GM Tommy Sheppard reiterated his desire to build around Bradley Beal in an interview with writer Brad Botkin. Washington offered Beal, who's under contract for two more years, a three-year contract extension worth $111 million this summer but the All-Star guard did not sign. While some took this as a reason to speculate about future trades, the move was understandable. For one, if Beal were to make an All-NBA team this season he would be eligible for the five-year "super-max." Secondly, it's possible that he wants to see how things are trending in Washington before committing to the franchise long-term. But the trade talk: that won't be happening according to Sheppard. "You look at the character, the talent, the age, just the whole package ... Brad is without a doubt a core player in this league.
