Kevin Love: "Team USA threw me under the bus"May 14, 2022 | 07:15 AM

Responding to last summer's withdrawal from the Olympics, Kevin Love said "People that I've had relationships with throughout USA basketball for that long, threw me under the bus. And I didn't like that." Analysis: Comments from managing director Jerry Colangelo went viral last year when he ripped Love for the withdrawal saying "I didn't think Kevin Love was going to play. I wasn't even sure he had much left to play. He reached out to us and said he was in shape and said he felt he owed us." He went on to say, "Well, it didn't work out. He wasn't in shape. And he was way behind as it turned out. So you move on. Call it a mistake. Call it giving someone an opportunity. Someone who had equity with us." Love paints a very different picture than the one Colangelo painted last summer and said that "he wasn't in a good place that summer and felt that leaving Team USA to get his mind and body right was the best thing to do for both himself and Team USA." The veteran big man's decision to take some time for himself obviously did wonders as he finished runner up for 6th Man of the Year behind Tyler Herro while averaging 13.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.5 triples across 22.5 minutes off the bench.
