King's ransom: LeBron, Lakers hold extension talksAugust 04, 2022 | 04:22 PM

According to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, LeBron James and the Lakers held productive talks regarding his two-year contract extension Thursday. Analysis: James is eligible for a two-year, $97.1 million contract extension, and he and the Lakers had productive talks Thursday. James will be 38 at the end of his current deal, and the longest deal a player of his age can sign is two years. He could choose to sign a one-year deal with a player option for the second year to ensure he's able to find a way to play with his son Bronny in the near future. A one-year extension would be worth up to $47 million. Barring a huge twist, we'd expect James to sign at least a one-year extension with LA before the season starts.
