Shams: Davis plans to opt-out, re-sign with LakersOctober 15, 2020 | 08:04 AM
Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on Thursday that Anthony Davis plans to opt out of the final year of his contract and re-sign with the Lakers.
Analysis: This doesn't come as a surprise at all, as Davis said in the aftermath of the Lakers winning the title that he had a "great time" in L. A. The franchise is well-positioned to be a title contender for years to come, and the partnership with LeBron James works both on and off the court. Davis won't lack for options with regard to the structure of a new deal, as he can go with a two-, three- or four-year contract. Charania projects that each of those contracts would have a player option in the final season, an approach that would reward Davis handsomely if the NBA salary cap eventually bounces back from the impact that COVID-19 had on team/league revenues as many expect.
