Alshon Jeffery expected to be released by Eagles once season startsFebruary 22, 2021 | 01:29 PM
According to Ian Rapoport, the Eagles are expected to release wide receiver Alshon Jeffery heading into the 2021 season.
Writer's Analysis: This comes as no surprise as Jeffrey has only started in 12 games over the last two years while being the tenth-highest paid player on the team and most expensive wide receiver. He carries a dead cap hit of $10.5M as opposed to his salary of approximately $6.5M. The Eagles seem set on heading into the 2021 season with a younger corps of receivers even if it means eating some money. In the wake of the Carson Wentz trade, Jalen Hurts seems poised to take over as the Week 1 starter. But with free agency opening up in less than a month, the Eagles may opt to bring in a veteran. Alshon will be a likely candidate for a one-year "prove it" deal as the 31-year-old has struggled to stay healthy the last few years and hasn't had a 1,000-yard season since 2014 in Chicago.
