Gilbert was a 2014 sixth-round pick of the Rams but didn't make his NFL regular season debut until Week 17 of this past season with the Panthers, completing 2-of-3 passes for 40 yards in New Orleans. He's now the starter for the Steve Spurrier-coached Apollos. In addition to his two touchdown passes, which went to former Jets WR Jalin Marshall and ex-USF RB D'Ernest Johnson, Gilbert also tossed a two-point conversion and caught a TD from Marshall on the famed "Philly Special" play dialed up by Spurrier. NFL teams have already admitted to scouting the AAF with a close eye on the league as sort of a developmental resource. It could lead to plenty of guys getting looks in training camps this summer. The AAF will be 12 weeks with its championship played in April.
