Patriots UDFA Jeff Thomas to make active roster?May 22, 2020 | 12:00 AM

NESN's Doug Kyed speculates that Patriots WR Jeff Thomas has the "best chance" to make the roster among the team's four UDFA additions at that position. Analysis: Thomas actually received the least amount of guaranteed money ($2,500) compared to Isaiah Zuber ($100,000), Will Hastings ($57,500), and Sean Riley ($15,000), but the former arguably remains the best of the bunch based solely on talent. The smallest (5'9) and lightest (170) receiver among this year's class, Thomas' career production at the collegiate level (83/1,316/8) lacks substance since he was booted from the team for repeated issues as a sophomore, reinstated by the program's new coaching staff the following year, then suspended for two games as a junior for unspecified violations. As one anonymous scout put it: "If [Thomas] ever grows up or a coach figures out what motivates him, look out." Perhaps Bill Belichick's tutelage is exactly what Thomas needs to finally get 'it'. The rookie has the highlights to prove his worth but he'll likely translate as a special teams weapon given his 22.6 and 18.9 yards per kick-off and punt return from college.
