Blackhawks don't dress full team MondayDecember 03, 2019 | 02:02 AM

Due to salary cap restraints, the Chicago Blackhawks did not dress a full team on Monday. Analysis: The Blackhawks had 11 forwards and six defensemen dress against the St. Louis Blues. The issue is that they're dealing with a number of injuries, but only one of their injured players - Drake Caggiula - is on the long-term injured reserve list. The normal IR list frees a roster spot, but only the LTIR frees cap space. The result is that the Blackhawks ran out of cap space to call up healthy players. It's believed the last time cap issues forced a team to play with fewer than 18 skaters was back in 2014 when it happened to the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings were shutout of that game and Chicago similarly suffered a 4-0 loss to St. Louis. "I mean, we tried," Jonathan Toews said. "We weren't executing -- we weren't doing those little things right again. It just makes everything tougher on all five guys when we're not making simple plays."
