Ekman-Larsson happy to still be in ArizonaNovember 21, 2020 | 06:13 AM
Oliver Ekman-Larsson has returned to Phoenix from Sweden and is still happy to be a member of the Arizona Coyotes.
Analysis: There were trade rumors aplenty before free agency that the Coyotes were trying to deal their best defenseman but OEL gave the team a deadline that wasn't met so he will be staying in Arizona. "I'm really glad that I'm a Coyote," Ekman-Larsson said. "That's why I signed my eight years here (contract extension). This is where I want to be and this is where I want to win. I really believe that we can do that if we keep doing the right things. But yeah, with everything going on in the world and this on top of that, the offseason had been really tough. I think I learned a lot, too, from that. I also get that it's a business side of things, and that's how it works. I hope that's one of the reasons why I'm the captain of this club, because I do think about other people and my teammates. That's something I grew up doing and it's who I am as a person." Ekman-Larsson had only nine goals and 30 points in 2019-20 and still has seven seasons to go on his long-term contract at a cap hit of $8.25 million per season.
