Jake Allen had the right mentalityJune 16, 2019 | 11:01 AM

Jake Allen's future with the St. Louis Blues is uncertain after Jordan Binnington backstopped the team to a Stanley Cup championship. Allen was usurped by Binnington, who lifted the Blues from the basement to a playoff spot, but he remained supportive. "I'm a realist, and I understand the business of this game. So probably mid-March I sat back and I took my role. I understood. I would be ready when called upon," said Allen. "I thought I had a really great second half of the season. It's probably some of the best hockey I've ever played. But 'Binner,' he's just been unbelievable. He's the best goalie in the league. And I just bit the bullet and said: 'All right, this is something special.' I knew we had a good group here. It's been amazing." He didn't want to think about his future with the team during the Stanley Cup Final, which is understandable, but now that it's finished the Blues and Allen will have to decide what comes next. Allen has a $4.35 million cap hit for the next two seasons and that's a lot to pay for a backup goaltender.
