Jakub Lauko learned a lot in the QMJHLJuly 17, 2019 | 01:46 AM

While Jakub Lauko was reluctant to play in the QMJHL last season, in retrospect he sees it as the right move. Lauko was hoping to jump straight from the Czech league to AHL, but he was hurt during the Bruins' training camp in 2018 and it was ultimately decided to send him to the junior league instead. There ended up being an adjustment period, but he still went on to score 21 goals and 41 points in 44 regular season games and then help the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in their playoff run that culminated in winning the Memorial Cup. He had a tournament-leading eight points in five Memorial Cup games. "I hated it for the first month," said Lauko. "But at the end of the season, you just look up and see that you won two trophies. It was the right choice after that. I think I changed a lot as a player. I improved my English, and I think I'm a different player after this season, different person. I'm just happy I made the choice."
