Penguins sign Cody Ceci to a one-year contractOctober 17, 2020 | 10:23 AM
Cody Ceci has signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Analysis: That's awfully cheap for a defenseman who routinely logs top-four or even top pairing minutes, but Ceci will nevertheless be a controversial signing for Pittsburgh. He's really bad from a Corsi and Fenwick perspective and he's prone to mental mistakes defensively. That being said, Ceci will play more of a depth role with the Penguins, likely starting the season on the third pairing, so perhaps he'll find more success with those reduced responsibilities. If nothing else, this is just a one-year deal at a low cap hit, so if it doesn't work out, the Penguins can simply move on.
